    Everbuild® Black Jack® 904 Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive – 5 L

Cold-applied oxidised bitumen-based adhesive supplied in a 5 L tin. This durable, flexible adhesive bonds roofing felt securely to a wide range of substrates and can also be used as a cold-gritting solution.

    Key benefits

    • Forms a tough yet flexible film that adapts to temperature fluctuations.
    • Provides strong, long-lasting adhesion for roofing felt applications.
    • Also suitable as a cold mix for gritting with chippings or gravel.
    • Resistant to most salt solutions, dilute acids and alkalis, water, and alcohol.

    Typical applications

    • Bonding roofing felt to itself, concrete, asphalt, metal, wood, and other common surfaces.
    • Sealing felt laps and embedding protective gravel or chippings into the top layer of felt.
    • Cold-gritting roofs with slopes of up to 10°.

    Usage guidance

    • Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from loose debris.
    • Apply by brush or mop; allow adhesive to become tacky (typically 15–30 minutes) before laying felt and rolling to ensure full contact.
    • Maintain a minimum lap width of 75 mm for edges and 150 mm for roll ends; apply adhesive generously and compact firmly.
    • On timber roofs, mechanically fix the first felt layer per BS 8217:1994, then bond additional layers with this adhesive.
    • For gritting: spread adhesive evenly over sections of around 20 m², immediately apply chippings, and brush off excess after 72 hours.
    • Clean tools immediately with paraffin or white spirit.

    Product details

    • Shelf life: Up to 24 months if stored sealed and intact between 5–25 °C, away from ignition sources.

    Good to know

Not resistant to oils, solvents, or strong detergents. Porous surfaces should be primed first with Black Jack® 902 Bitumen & Flashing Primer for best results. Check adhesion after 24 hours to confirm proper bonding, especially at edges and laps.
