From Gloucestershire to Sierra Leone: Supporting Education and Opportunity

    02 Jun 2026

County Building Supplies’ Gloucester branch has been proud to support a remarkable charitable initiative in Sierra Leone, led by the Kambia District Foundation and supported on the ground by Gloucestershire-based construction company Orange House Construction.

The partnership has helped provide essential building materials and tools for a series of life-changing projects focused on improving education and living conditions for local children and communities. Most recently, Dan Jones and his team from Orange House have been working on the construction of a new kitchen facility, a vital addition that will help provide daily meals for children attending the schools supported by the charity.

The work forms part of a much wider mission by the Kambia District Foundation, a charity founded and run by Simon and Jen, which has already delivered a primary school, secondary school and nursery building in the region, helping to educate around 2,000 children.

Simon David of Kambia District Foundation added:

“Kambia District Foundation is a tiny charity run by myself and my wife, aiming to improve education in Sierra Leone by building free schools open to all. To date our charity has built a primary school, a secondary school and last year we completed the construction of a nursery building, the first of its kind in the area. We currently educate around 2,000 children across the three schools.

We are completely reliant on donations from friends, family and other connections that we have. Furthermore, we are often joined by enthusiastic volunteers on our trips to the country who assist with projects as they come up. One of the key individuals that has been involved with us for a number of years now is Dan Jones of Orange Construction, a fantastic builder from Cheltenham. Dan in turn has always been supported very generously by County Building Supplies who have always been incredibly generous with donations of tools and other building materials that we are able to take with us on our trips. These have made a huge difference to us and have helped immeasurably.”

Dan Jones from Orange House also spoke about the long-standing relationship behind the project:

“Having met Simon and Jen over 10 years ago starting as clients, they have now become great friends to myself and my family. Being asked to go to Sierra Leone to help with the charity was something I did not see coming but have since returned many times and have been involved in many projects for their charity.

As Simon mentioned the charity only survives from donations, fundraising and support. Adam and County Building Supplies has supported us several times with supplies you simply cannot get hold of in Sierra Leone but have enabled us to continue with the projects needed that in turn make a huge difference to the children, their surroundings and their ability to learn.”

Adam Ball, Branch Manager at County Building Supplies Gloucester, said:

“Through the supply of building materials, it’s been great to play a small part in a project that is making such a meaningful difference. It’s inspiring to see the impact of this collaboration, and we’re proud that our Gloucester branch has been able to support Dan and his team in delivering such an important project.”

Through continued collaboration and community support, the partnership between County Building Supplies, Orange House and the Kambia District Foundation is helping to create lasting opportunities for children and families in Sierra Leone.
